I had the chance to visit recently. Work happened to end early that day, and on my way home—passing right through the area—I stopped by Ogikubo, which has become quite a hotspot lately with places like the Tekigai-sou (Ogikubo Villa), the Kadokawa Garden, and the Ōtaguro Park.
Tekigai-sou is known as the wartime residence of Fumimaro Konoe. It was the site of the Ogikubo Conference, where Japan’s prime minister was decided. Although Konoe consistently opposed going to war, he was later designated a Class-A war criminal after the war and ultimately took his own life there.
The garden pond has unfortunately been filled in, but the building alone is well worth seeing. The attention to detail in its design is remarkable. I couldn’t help but notice a stain on the old sliding door in the study where Konoe died—it really caught my eye...
